Mandatory Judging Rule

Judging has become an enormous task. We are a member participation-based organization, and we must have your participation. We appreciate our members and their submissions. The new judging requirement is meant to encourage judging participation with special incentives. Details follow.

JUDGING REQUIREMENT: The success of the Emmy® Awards process depends on the willingness of qualified professionals to serve as judges.  Peers in other NATAS Chapters are serving this Chapter’s entrants and in return this Chapter will judge other Chapters’ entries.  By entering, you agree to serve as a judge when called upon.

NEW JUDGING RULES: By entering in the Call for Entries, you agree to serve as a judge and the judging must occur during the eligibility date of entries December 1, 2020 to November 30, 2021. If you meet the requirements listed below within the fiscal year, then your entry fees will not increase. If you do not meet the requirements below within the fiscal year, the penalty fee is $25 per entry, per name.

  • If you enter once, you’ll need to judge once.
  • If you enter twice, you’ll need to judge twice.
  • If you enter three or more times, you’ll need to judge 3 times.

This season, judging will occur from February 2021 – November 2021. There are typically 3-4 opportunities to judge other chapters’ entries during the year (we call them Rounds). All entrants are notified via email. Please expect to see these judging notices regularly from February to September. Judging must be completed as per the deadline stipulated by the chapter. Late judging will not count towards the requirement.

We will be closely monitoring who enters but does not judge. This continued pattern of entering but not serving as a judge will result in a $25 penalty fee per entrant name.

For first time entrants the Mandatory Judging does not apply. This rule is for previous entrants that entered the 2020 Michigan EMMY® Call for Entries.
